These programs are developed specifically for online learning and to virtually connect students and teachers with Mount Vernon estate, staff experts, and 18th-century primary sources from within the private collections. 

How to Register for Distance Learning Programs

  • Reservations by Phone or Online: All programs are reserved through our online registration link below or through our Groups Reservation Department and run through Webex Video Conference Platform.
  • Program links will be sent out upon registration confirmation.
  • Reservations must be made at least two weeks before the scheduled program.

  • Qualified Title One schools nationwide registering for any of these special distance learning programs will receive a discounted price on the program!

Guided Virtual Tour

This place-based program virtually connects students and teachers from their hometowns with the estate and history of Mount Vernon.

The interactive exploration of our virtual tour will use the mansion and grounds as a backdrop to discuss important events and themes in the lives of George Washington, his family, and the enslaved people at Mount Vernon.

Program Days: Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
Program Times: 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m. (all eastern time zone)
Recommended Grade Levels: K-12
Program Length: 60 minutes

Then join Mount Vernon experts to learn more about George Washington, challenges he faced in his leadership roles, and the lasting impact of his decisions on the world today.

Enslaved People of Mount Vernon Tour

This analysis-based program virtually connects students and teachers with individual members of the enslaved community while discussing the institution and legacy of slavery at Mount Vernon

The interactive tour will use the private collections of Mount Vernon, historic grounds, and thinking routines to teach about lives, jobs, and relationships of the enslaved community and the institution that fought to take away their humanity. The students will gain digital access to original primary source documents, objects, and places.
